Staying at home during lockdown can be tough, especially if you’ve got nothing new to listen to. That’s why we’ve created a follow up to our original Queers For Your Ears listicle, by rounding up these six extraordinary, entertaining queer podcasts – for your hearing pleasure.
The Intersection Of Things
Described by one reviewer as “cultural analysis by smart ass feminists”, The Intersection Of Things is a podcast about technology and how it’s changing our lives with a feminist perspective. Hosted by two friends, Marianela Ramos Capelo and Ruth Coustick-Deal – separated by the Atlantic Ocean but meeting up through the power of technology – and covering everything from the beauty industry to fan-fiction.
It’s queer content that’s compelling and it’s a refreshing perspective on topics that are usually covered by, you got it – straight white men. Tune in hereand follow them twitter.com/thingsintersect. (Oh, and keep your eyes peeled for our chats with Ruth, coming to the DIVA website soon…)
QueerAF
Hosted by Jamie Wareham and produced by National Student Pride, this inspiring podcast tells a different queer story each week told personally by either a student, graduate or LGBTQI+ producer. Listen for a contrasting experience each week, from an episode focusing on queer, Muslim sex work to queer people discussing “acting straight” to stay safe on public transport.
There’s no podcast like this one, it’s a unique experience that will leave you wanting to binge the entire series. Catch up with all the episodes here, and follow host Jamie Wareham twitter.com/jamie_wareham.
The Gurls Talk Podcast
Already launching their second season, The Gurls Talk Podcast engages a variety of experts from different fields to create a new approach to mental health that’s both inclusive and progressive. “Now, more than ever, it’s important to create safe spaces that encourage open and honest conversations about mental health with no judgement or shame,” explains host and creator of the Gurls Talk organisation, Adwoa Aboah.
Whilst it isn’t focused on queer issues specifically, Gurls Talk is community led and dedicated to promoting positive mental health and the wellbeing of young women. Check them out on Spotifyor follow them twitter.com/GURLSTALK.
Nancy
Kathy Tu and Tobin Low are the queer duo ready to take over the podcast world. This podcast features provocative stories and honest discussions about the experiences today in the LGBTQI+ community. A weekly podcast produced by WNYC Studios, the content varies between news, analysis and interviews with people in the queer community.
It’ll play with your emotions – making you laughandcry. Check them out here. Follow them twitter.com/NancyPodcast.
Some Families
Some Families is hosted by lesbian mum Lotte Jeffs and gay dad Stu Oakley, the show is the UK’s first and only LGBTQI+ parenting podcast series. In this groundbreaking podcast, the pair break down parenting myths and answer the most pressing questions from those thinking about parenthood.
“There’s so little information available to LGBTQI+ people thinking about starting a family, hopefully by sharing our own stories and listening to others’ we’ll give people contemplating becoming or in the middle of being a parent some encouragement, support and perspective,” explains Lotte Jeffs. Listen to all their episodes hereand follow them twitter.com/SOMEFAMILIESPOD
Lesbian Sisters Podcast
Queer best friends and sisters, Charlie and Candace, watch and comment on lez/bi popular culture. Starting in 2012, the duo has kept up with their podcast making it relevant and interactive by including a fun (responsible) drinking game during every episode.
In their latest episode, they watch the film Chloe and have the best time whilst giving their honest opinions on the movie. They genuinely have fun during the podcast, and it shows in their chemistry. Find them hereor give them a follow instagram.com/SisterLaughs.
