Five UK drag kings you should know!

Drag has become popularised by shows such as RuPaul’s Drag Race and The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula, but queens have been the focus. It’s become mainstream to like drag queens, the problem is that kings haven’t become mainstream either. Drag is an art form, and it should be appreciate properly. Here are five UK drag kings to look out for.


Adam All

Created by Jen Powell, Adam All runs a monthly Cabaret drag king night in Soho. Adam All has gone on to perform across the UK, and an advocate of drag and supporter of the emerging drag king scene. “As an andregenous individual and as someone who considers themself to be gender neutral, Adam allows me to embrace my masculinity and through him,” explains Powell “I hope to encourage others to do the same and find freedom in expressing who they truly are.”

Benjamin Butch

Benjamin Butch challenges the concepts of what it means to be masculine and feminine. His idol is Mick Jagger as he’s a flamboyant male who enjoys being silly with the audience. Appearing on This Morning and many other documentaries, Butch is a regular Cabaret star at The Glory and BoiBox. Butch told I-D Magazine “You could say I’m an activist, challenging perceptions of gender both in and out of drag.”

Chiyo Gomes

Chiyo Gomes is a trans Afro-Latinx drag performer. Self-described as punk trash, they’re a member of the KOC iniative. Unafraid of controversy, Gomes said on stage “Drag is owning a space, making ti yours, creating something and having the ability to make people want to keep watching you.” There is no one else as creative and experimental than Chiyo Gomes.

Oedipussi Rex

Rocking the facial hair and making it look stylish whilst doing so, Oedipussi Rex’s beard has been disco balls, flowers, tentacles and whatever you can imagine. Host of the epic cabaret and games night at Matchstick Piehouse, her shows give you everything you’ll need.

Frankie Sinatra

With the suaveist voice, Frankie Sinatra is the drag king to look out for. The witty host and producer of the King of Clubs, a QX award nominated Drag extravaganza. Starting over five years ago, Frankie Sinatra has only just started and you should check out their content. It’ll take you back to a simpler and cooler time.
