Five entertaining drag shows to watch (other than RDR)

Originally posted on The Tuck Magazine.

RuPaul's Drag Race has dominated the drag genre on TV but it's not the only good show worth watching. From TLC to Channel 4, there are so many different shows to get your drag fix.

Here are five drag shows that you can watch.

DRAGNIFICENT!

Hosted on TLC and starring Drag Race Allumni: Alexis Michelle, BeBe Zahara Benet Jujubee and Thorgy Thor. Four drag queens help an engaged woman to plan her upcoming wedding by giving her fashion advice and helping her to feel confident. Sure it's cheesy but it's full of heart and easy watching.

WE'RE HERE

A six-part documentary series on HBO featuring former RuPaul's Drag Race contestants Bob the Drag Queen, Eureka O'Hara, and Shangela. In the series, the trio of drag queens travel across the United States to recruit small-town residents to participate in one-night-only drag shows. This show digs deep into the pain of queer lives in small town America and the focuses on the heart of drag.

THE BOULET BROTHERS' DRAGULA

The first U.S. reality TV competition with a drag king, Dragula is a drag competition but thrown in with terrifyingly unique surprises. The show isn't for the faint of heart but features fabulous drag and you'll never see anything else like it. Instead of lip-syncs, they have a “extermination” challenge where they have to do creepy things amid screaming desert dwellers. The losers are killed off in a horror movie fashion. If you like drag mixed with filth, horror and glamour, then Dragula is a must-watch for you.

KING ME

The first worldwide drag king race debuted on YouTube in 2017 on the 7th of February. The show was a drag competition for drag kings and had two excellent seasons before they went on a permanent hiatus. It's entirely free to watch and shows a variety of talent and is worth a watch. Hopefully they'll bring it back soon or get picked up by a television show.

DRAG SOS

A quirky makeover show but the best part is that it's UK drag artists who are giving the makeover. The Family Gorgeous help unlikely protégées to become confident and prouder in themselves. It's worth watching and available for UK viewers on All 4 for free. Give the show some support and hopefully we'll get a season two.
