5 reasons Why Resident Evil Code: Veronica Deserves a Remake

Originally posted on Meteor Media.

It’s no surprise that Capcom are remaking old Resident Evil titles. Both the remakes of Resident Evil 1 and 2 were huge commercial and critical successes. Now, Capcom are reportedly remaking Resident Evil 4, but what about the true sequel to the Raccoon City games? Resident Evil Code: Veronica was released in 2000 and is the fourth major instalment in the series. It was originally supposed to be the true sequel to Resident Evil 2, but Resident Evil 3 was released next due to issues at Capcom with working on The Dreamcast. Resident Evil Code: Veronica would be the perfect game for Capcom to remake next and here are five reasons why. It Follows On From RE2 & RE3 Resident Evil Code: Veronica is set three months after the events of Resident Evil 2, and follows Claire Redfield as she continues her search to find her brother Chris. With a cameo mention of Leon Scott Kennedy, it’s the authentic sequel to the games. Return of Wesker Everyone’s favourite sunglasses-wearing villain is back and better than ever! Wesker returns for the first time since his ‘death’ in the first game. We even see the battle between Chris and Wesker full of epic moments that would look fantastic with the new RE-engine. It's a Survival Horror Game Survival horror is a popular genre in games at the moment and there has been a recent resurgence in titles which was catapulted by the Resident Evil 2 remake. Resident Evil Code: Veronica is the last canon title (until Resident Evil 7) that actually lived up to the name and wasn’t an action game like Resident Evil 5 and 6. Gothic Environments The set design in Resident Evil Code: Veronica is gloriously creepy. It was decided that the team wanted to return to the decor from the mansion in the first game but enhance it to make it more disturbing and full of scares. The environments with the added bonus of the sinister and bizarre villains makes it feel even more scarier. Siblings Reunited Of course the Redfield family are reunited and shown on-screen for the first and only time in the series. Despite both Claire and Chris being huge parts of the franchise, Resident Evil Code: Veronica is the only game that brings them together and shows their family bond in action. The re-release of Resident Evil Code: Veronica is available on the PS4 and Xbox
